INSURANCE

PROTECT YourInvestment

If you have to miss a trip, that in itself is disappointing enough. Losing the money you paid for it could be even worse. With this in mind, we highly recommend that you consider purchasing travel insurance to protect your investment for your trip. We help arrange travel insurance as part of travel protection plans from Travel Insured International (TII). Whether it’s a sudden change of plans or unforeseen circumstances, travel protection can help provide coverage every step of the way.

As you explore this page and your options, you’ll see both trip protection and dive insurance information. Read thoroughly to make sure you understand the right choices for your child.

TII Protection plan US Residents

Sail Caribbean recommends TII to help safeguard your investment with coverage for trip cancellation, trip Interruption, travel delays, missed connections, baggage delays, plus accident, sickness, and medical expenses. In most states, diving is also covered! (Diving is not covered in the state of Washington.) For additional information about these plans, including sample plans, a quote, and important disclaimers, click here.

  • The optional Cancel for Any Reason (CFAR) benefit is unavailable for New York residents.
  • Enroll via your CampInTouch account in the TII Protection Plan form. The cost will be added to your final balance.
  • Diving is covered (except in the state of Washington) with this plan.

Trip InsuranceInternational Students

If you are not a US citizen or US resident, Seven Corners Insurance offers a handful of both comprehensive and travel medical policies that provide adequate protection while traveling.

  • Seven Corners policies do NOT cover scuba diving for non-certified (beginner) divers. If your student plans to take Discover Scuba Diving or earn an Open Water Certification, Seven Corners will not provide coverage for these activities. In that case, we recommend purchasing DAN dive insurance.
  • If your student is already certified and pursuing their Advanced Open Water, Rescue Dive, Dive Master, or is a Recreational Diver, this plan would cover scuba.

Using your own insurance?

Sail Caribbean accepts your family’s insurance if it covers scuba diving, medical evacuation, and recompression treatments abroad. Since medical costs are your responsibility, ensure your coverage is adequate. In our experience, personal insurance policies often do not provide sufficient coverage for these specific needs. You are responsible for verifying your insurance coverage, as Sail Caribbean cannot assess policies or assist with claims.

  • What is the process for filing claims? What documentation is needed?
  • Does my policy cover medical emergencies while traveling internationally?
  • Are emergency medical evacuations included in the coverage?
  • Does the policy cover scuba diving activities, including beginner courses like Discover Scuba Diving or Open Water Certification?
  • Are there any exclusions or limitations related to adventure sports?
  • Discover Scuba Diving (DSD): Max depth 40 ft (12m)
  • Open Water Diver (OW): Max depth 60 ft (18m)
  • Advanced Open Water Diver (AOW): Max depth 100 ft (30m)
  • Rescue Diver (RD): Typically 30-60 ft (10-18m)

dive insurance Required for all divers

All students participating in scuba diving activities must be covered by diving-related medical insurance. If you have purchased the TII Protection Plan, no additional insurance plans are needed. Otherwise, you must obtain separate dive insurance. If you have purchased an international plan or are using your own insurance, you may need to obtain separate dive insurance.

DAN provides specialized dive insurance for all levels of divers, covering dive-related incidents such as decompression sickness, emergency evacuations, and more.

DAN Contact Information

Note: You may purchase the required dive accident insurance from DAN, but must become a member in their organization first. It does take a little more work than TII, but it is acceptable.
