Follow Our Journey! Bravo, Charlie, Foxtrot, & Sierra 1- Day 7
Written by Josie A., Social Media Coordinator
Everyone woke up to a bright and early sunrise this morning brimming with excitement because we were sailing to Scrub Island! Looking forward to the land showers that awaited them, everyone had a quick breakfast and started their PDCs, pre-departure checks, and got their life jackets zipped and clipped!
All boats quickly dropped the ball and were off toward Scrub! It was a longer sail, at around three hours, so after raising jails and unfurling the jib, campers went through a knot lesson and learned three of our most used knots when on board: bowline, clove hitch, and cleat hitch. After a few demonstrations, everyone practiced and had it down! Once everyone could do each knot independently, we started a lesson on sail trim, learning about the telltales and how to determine if your sail is trimmed successfully. So much speedy sailing!
After we were getting close to Scrub we picked up mooring balls at Marina Cay, a mooring field right next to Scrub, and started our first deep clean on this program. Once lunch was prepped and eaten, all divers we picked up by the dive boat and headed off! All boats looked spotless once docking began, with all crews getting their boats in seamlessly.
Shore time began and everyone was so excited to get to use the land showers and bathrooms! There are so many cute boutiques and shops on Scrub along with a pool, which is super fun and has a slide! After shower rotations were done and dinner was eaten, all students gathered on C dock for a nighttime adaptation lesson from our marine biology coordinator, Janaye! A glow party began soon after with bubbles and a huge speaker! What a fun night!
