The fleet woke up early and took part in our first meal competition of the program, Pancakealooza, or pancake parties, Mile High put together a “Dune” themed pancake spread, using a line of pancakes to create an edible sand worm and all committed to their roles in full costume along with the soundtrack from the movie.

After a much-earned pancake feast, the crews cooled off with a quick swim before taking a dinghy ashore and trucking to Big Bamboo, a local cafe, for some ice cream and a look around the local gift shop! After this, they took part in a “Human Impacts” lesson from our Marine Bio coordinator -Janaye- where they discussed environmental threats including sunscreen, plastics, and overconsumption! After this, each boat took part in a beach clean and filled multiple trash bags with a variety of litter that would have otherwise found its way into the ocean.

Before heading back to boats, the groups took a truck tour around the island and stopped at a local shark and flamingo habitat and managed to see a few baby sharks and some flamingos landing near the mangroves. It was super cool to see the flock land so close to us! Once back on board, crews prepared a delicious meal of spaghetti bolognese.

Finally, it was time to finish the day with a PM boat meeting and a few rounds of guess-that-song with Program Director, Nat, before unwinding and having a quiet night on board!

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
