Today we woke up at Cooper Island bright and early at 6:45 am. Quinn and Eloise made a wonderful breakfast of eggs and bacon. Before leaving the boat to go to Salt Island Ava and Val went over navigating the path to Salt Island from Cooper looking at charts. We also learned about the history behind the naming of Salt Island and its historical importance to native Caribbean people!

Shortly after, FLX went to Mile Hi and motored to Salt Island. Cooper was the skipper and was on the wheel while heading to Salt Island. At Salt Island, the group learned how to anchor. Later at Salt, they went on a snorkel and saw starfish, schools of fish, coral, and more. The fish ID lesson was a group favorite, especially with mate Emily’s amazing drawings! The group made many friends on Mile Hi.

After snorkeling the group came back to boats and made BLTs. They then went to shore on Cooper, browsed the shops, got ice cream, hung out at the beach, and went tubing. Ava and Caroline had a fantastic time on the tube and “can’t wait to do it again!”

During this time, Ethan and Emma went scuba diving. Emma saw a huge barracuda during her dive! Later the group came back to FLX and had a shower party playing “Shower” by Becky G on loop. During their showers, a massive turtle came above the water and everyone gathered on the stern to see it. After getting squeaky clean, Hartley and Max made a delicious dinner of Greek bowls.

The group spent the rest of the afternoon doing hair tinsel and playing the card game spoons!

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
