The Alpha program started their day with a “lie-in”, and made their way to shore after a breakfast buffet of yogurts, oatmeal, cereal, and bagels. We then proceeded to hike up the short but challenging Guy’s Trail, taking a moment to savor the beautiful view of Virgin Gorda’s North Sound from the summit.

After cooling down with ice water and a dip in the beautiful blue, the crews then spent the afternoon eating lunch either under the pavilion or at the yacht club’s restaurant, taking out small boats such as Hobie Cats and Getaways, shredding it on different watersporting activities, and taking a ride on Sail Caribbean’s infamous “Poparazzi,” and relaxing on the beach.

After a wonderful afternoon onshore, we headed back to our home boats to prepare for Chili Cook Off! Chili Cook Off entails a friendly competition between our program boats on who can make the best chili and then present it to a team of judges while incorporating a theme of the students choosing. The judges of the competition are our friends, the traveling Chileans, who visit strictly for the special event. After the Cook Off came to a close, we gave our boats a good clean, and began to wind down from the day with a boat meeting and went to sleep in preparation for another day on the water tomorrow.

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
