Today, we woke up with a super excited feeling around the fleet because today was the Fourth of July!! Everyone got into their best red, white, and blue attire and donned some colorful zinc to represent the USA all the way in the BVI. So fun!

Staying in the spirit, Holden, a camper on Dreamer, ended every radio message with “God Bless” in his best southern accent, which gave everyone on fleet a little giggle throughout the day. After everyone filled up with water, we said goodbye to Cane Garden Bay and started making our way to Trellis for our Fourth of July celebrations and shore time! We also had campers and staff take our small Colgates around to Trellis which was an amazing learning experience for all students because it was a longer sail than our usual Colgate sessions. Amazing!!

The sail went smoothly for all boats and before we knew it, we had arrived at Trellis! Fourth of July was extra exciting for us because we were meeting up with our Alpha and Tango programs for the bonfire celebrations. Some of our campers had friends on the other fleet, so they were super excited to get to see them again!

Once all boats had moored, we headed to shore to go to the shops and grab fun drinks! Aragorn’s had the cutest T-shirts and other items that are native to Tortola, so everyone was decked out in BVI gear after that. Super cute!

Once nightfall hit, everyone went to shore for an amazing bonfire at Aragorn’s with super delicious virgin mocktails and fun Fourth of July gear. The DJ was playing the best tunes and the dance floor was rocking! The night’s highlight was the people walking on stilts and busting a move in the sky!

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
