Follow Our Journey! Alpha & Tango – Day 5
By Ellie B., Provisioning Manager
Day 5 marked another magical day in the BVIs. On a mooring ball at Cooper students woke up ready for a big day of fun. After fueling up with a breakfast of eggs and bacon we sent all the Advanced Open Water, Open Water, and Fun divers ashore and some even got their certifications.
Those who weren’t diving got ready to snorkel a nearby reef and had an amazing lesson on coral and fish identification taught by Captain Kelly. At the snorkel and dive campers were able to create and strengthen new friendships with students from other boats as well as students from our Delta Program.
After dives, snorkels, and swim fun time students prepared lunched and began their pre-departure checks to get the boat ready for Village Key Marina. The skippers of the day assumed position and began assigning roles to their fellow students for a down wind sail to docks.
Underway students expanded their knowledge on points of sail and practiced throwing lines and tying fenders at the bow, spring, and stern as they got ready for their first docking of the session. Coming into Village Key the boats awaited docking instructions and the students were in the middle of the action- throwing lines, spotting, and handling a roaming fender.
After docking the deep cleaning began. Students got the boats spick and span and also made room for a new round of reprovisioning where avocados, chips, and hummus were best in show.
Being at the docks allows all the kids to be closer together and have boat play dates which is always fun for them to extend their circle of friends beyond their boat. After a dinner of Sail Caribbean’s famous egg fried rice the kids had boat meeting and got ready for another night under the stars!
