This morning, we awoke at an anchorage just west of a small stretch of sand known as Sandy Spit.  The lovely little fleck of an island provides a surprisingly calm refuge from the blustery winds on the north side of Tortola.  After breakfast, the crews of Attila, Mersault, and Fermi competed in a heated game called Fire Drill.  The game consists of a series of challenges in which each boat must come up with and then deliver certain items or combinations of items to staff member in a dinghy that is floating between the boats.  The challenges included but were not limited to:  towing a crewmember on a raft constructed of fenders and line; transporting a dry tortilla chip with salsa, sour cream, and cheese; and dressing their captain and mate in as many articles of clothing as possible of the same color and then towing them in the dinghy as a team.  The crews were fierce, creative, and passionate competitors.

The fleet then hopped over to another small island called Sandy Cay where students explored tide pools and mangrove forests and enjoyed the beach together. Some students were up for some more competition and organized a game of Capture The Flag on the white sandy beach.

A busy day was capped off with a dinner ashore at Sidney’s Peace & Love at Little Harbour, Jost Van Dyke. The Charlie, Bravo, Sierra, and Foxtrot students all made their way ashore for an evening of barbeque, ice cream, music, dancing, and even hair braiding!

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
