Sierra 2 & Foxtrot 2 2015 Trip Blog- Day 14

Spyglass had a nice sleep in until 8:30a.m. The crew woke up to a morning turtling session. With some of the staff already in the water, Patrick, Matt, Quinton and James hopped in the water to seek out some turtles while Ashley and William prepared breakfast for everyone. By 10a.m., everyone had eaten and was ready to head to shore.

Both Foxtrot and Sierra hiked to the ‘Bubbly Pools’ on Jost Van Dyke. There were tons of rocks to climb and a massive rock pool to swim in! Adam, Lisa, Hannah, and Skylar climbed all over the rocks and were like ninjas while Quinton, Kenya, William, and James all relaxed by the bubbly pool and had small fish nibble on their toes! Everyone had so much fun!

Once we got back to the boats, it was time for lunch followed by more turtle tagging and project time. Jen, the captain of I Am Free, caught a turtle in the late afternoon, after the students tried themselves but unfortunately the turtles were just too fast! The turtle was brought to the Foxtrot boat where the students all helped with various measurements needed a d kept the turtle hydrated by sprinkling water over his head and body.

Following returning the turtle back to its environment, all the Sierra kids were dinghied to snorkel at a nearby reef to collect and analyze data. Next, Sierra and Foxtrot also had a squid dissection, where everyone had their own personal squid. Alex, Spyglass‘ captain, led us through the entire thing, and we all learned a lot but the smell was pretty awful!

After some time for relaxing, we then motored to Little Harbour. We had dinner ashore and everyone was delighted that they didn’t have to do any dinner clean up! It was a massive buffet and we had sodas too! After we filled our stomachs to the brim we headed back to boats where we played Celebrity heads, a particularly hysterical game! After a fun-filled evening, everyone was ready for bed.
