Today was Challenge Day! Jeremy was our captain of the day, Sydney was our navigator and Sam was the mate. Challenge Day entails that the crew has to run the entire day’s activities without the help of the staff. In order to prepare for this, we had a leadership team to guide us through the day, consisting of Jeremy, Sydney, Sam and Allegra. They went to the staff boat for an early morning meeting to discuss the plan for the day and how to get from The Bight at Norman Island to Great Harbour on Peter Island safely, tactfully, and efficiently.
When the team returned, we had breakfast and then Andrew Lewis, Charlie, Nick, Sam and Davis went to shore to complete their final confined water class! Meanwhile, the non-divers went to shore for a variety of activities. Jeremy, Sydney, Kat, Andrew Lee, Lily and Allegra all went tubing then hung out on the beach. Due to it being Challenge Day, the crew was in charge of the activities and decided to spend plenty of time on the beach.
We returned to the boats after an unplanned lunch on shore (Jeremy decided to make the executive decision to have lunch on shore rather than on the boats!) then dropped the ball to begin our sail to Great Harbour. It was an intense sail with winds of around 26 knots, so we reefed our main sail and circumnavigated part of Peter Island. We got to practice all points of sail and both tacking and jibing. We arrived at our destination slightly late, but in the end everyone was impressed by how well we had done! Today our crew did a great job of tacking but we need to work on listening and communication. Our miracle moment was when we successfully completed Challenge Day!
