Early Alpha Trip Blog Day 9
Early Alpha 2015 – Day 9
written by Program Director, Phil Yudin
Today was one of the most important days of our program… CHALLENGE DAY! Our leadership team, comprised of each boat’s Skipper, Mate, and Navigator of the day went to the staff boat for an early meeting about scheduling and planning. We had a delicious breakfast of Cinnamon Rolls and then got underway, leaving Trellis Bay on Beef Island to head up to the Bitter End Yacht Club! Challenge Day means that the Sail Caribbean’s staff Captain and Mates on our boats are not allowed to help at all, except for in matters of safety.
Despite the looming challenge, our Skippers and Mates were able to navigate us all safely up to the North Sound of Virgin Gorda well within the time limits! Congratulations to Gavin, Mark, Sebastian, Lizzie, Ashley, Daisy, Max, Jackson, and Jake for their work as our leadership team, as well as all of the crew. Once we arrived to the Bitter End, Julie, Ellie, Virginia, and May went out tubing with Perry while the rest of us got some tanning and relaxing time. To cap off our long day, we had a yummy dinner of Chicken and Cheese Quesadillas prepared by our cooks. Lastly, we got some star-gazing in as we drifted off to sleep to prepare for our long day tomorrow!
Sorry for the delay on pictures! Here’s a look into the past couple day’s activities. An extra special shout out to student, Lizzie Kavounas for contributing some beautiful photographs!
